Coast Stands Behind Rising Triathlon Star

Coast Papamoa Beach has awarded one of their allocated sponsor entries for the Tinman Triathlon to 16-year-old Mount Maunganui College student Sam Durrant who is aiming for a top 10 finish at the December 5th event.

This is Sam’s first serious year doing triathlons after discovering a talent and passion for the sport in 2009. The Tinman will be his biggest triathlon of the season and he will compete in the individual sprint category which comprises a 750m swim, 20km bike and 5.5km run.

Coast Papamoa Beach Project Director Steve Short says sponsoring Sam’s entry fee into the race was a fantastic opportunity to help out an upcoming athlete and meant that Sam could focus all his energy on training.

“The Tinman has always attracted highly ranked elite athletes such as Cameron Brown and Kieran Doe. We believe that Sam Durrant has the potential to reach that elite level one day as well.”

Coast Papamoa Beach, Tauranga’s newest residential community by international developer Frasers Property,  is also entering a team in the triathlon. Coast Papamoa Beach sales executive and ex-All Black Bull Allen will compete with Tauranga Triathlon Club president Adam Hazlett and marathon veteran Dennis Marshall in a team that is expected to be very competitive.
